*This set of lessons only works after Culture Activity #1 has been done first.*
Below you will find a foundational lesson plan that follows the same structure as every other story on this website. The only difference in this plan are the cultural concepts employed:
"Sports/Games" - "Courtship" - "Adolescence"
Extension activities are placed at the bottom of this page should you seek opportunities to change things up or take the learning further.

Partner Cultural Iceberg Circle Sort
- Put the seats in a semi-circle
- Students present their charts to the class and explain their rationale for each placement one character at a time
- As a class, agree or disagree and explain why
- Fill out a separate iceberg chart for each character on chart paper. Before placing a concept in a character’s iceberg, the majority has to vote in agreement. These charts will remain up as we read all the stories so we can see which characters continue throughout each text.
- Have students respond to the following questions in their notebook:
- Based on the cultural concepts, what similarities do I have to each character?
- Based on the cultural concepts, what differences do I have from each character?
- Which character do I connect the most with in relation to this story? Why?
- What is Myers trying to show through this story? Explain.
- What have I learned about my culture and that of others through this story?
